Oh my goodness!

This is so much fun but so much work! God bless the single mother. . .I've said it before and I will say it again :)! Loren has been such an angel girl! She is just as happy as can be that she has "her baby." She has jealousy issues sometimes. It's hard, I know! But honestly her jealousy comes in the form of "Hold me mommy." Which I can handle! She is having a bit of a rough time going to bed at night. She has stayed up 1 - 3 hours past her bedtime every night since we brought Zach home.

Zach is such a good baby! I am so happy with him. He is just so alert when he is awake! He has two 3 hour stints in the morning and in the evening when he is awake. He sleeps from 9pm to about 3am, nurses and then sleeps to 7 or 8 am. Yes, I do realize how lucky I am!!!!

Nursing is going surprisingly well. I have my difficulties! Zach has a hard time latching sometimes so I'm pretty sore. However, when he latches that child will EAT AND EAT AND EAT! It's amazing to me because Loren NEVER nursed as well as Zach does. He's only 10 days old and Loren was 2 months! I'll just be glad when we can get these feedings down to 20/30 minutes instead of 45! It'll get better as Z and I get to know each other!

I have some adorable pictures to download but I am being lazy! I will post them (hopefully tomorrow)!

Zachary Dean Rozema

As most of you know we had Zachary Dean Rozema Thursday October 18th at 6:54 pm. We were admitted to the hospital on Wednesday at 10:00 pm. I was given Cervidil at 11:00. I was still slightly effaced and 3 cm. At 1:00 am I was allowed to have my first meal since early that morning. It was one of the best dang meals I ever ate! I was so hungry! I was given a sleeping pill because I was so excited and couldn't sleep! The next day the doctor came in early and started my pitocin drip. I was given my epidural and then the doctor broke my water. I labored all day and about 5:30 my epidural quit working. I was 7 cm and fully effaced. The nurse called the anaesthesiologist because I was in so much pain. I felt better very quickly but at that point I quickly went to a 10 and was ready to push. The doctor was rather upset that I was given a boost in my epidural but I was in too much pain and the nurse made a good call (in my opinion). It was humerus because I couldn't get my legs up to push at all. In fact, I couldn't even wiggle my hips around to get them even. Mike had to literally shove me! It was time to push. In one push I had the baby down in the birth canal! Then they told me to "hang out" and wait for the doctor. Are you kidding me??? The baby was in my canal NUZZLING me! I was just crying because I could feel myself tearing. All of the sudden the baby's heart-rate dropped from 130 down to 90. Then they lost the heart rate. The resident looked at me and said, "It's time to have this baby now. One push get him out!" On my next contraction I pushed and they wouldn't let me stop. As I pushed she started cutting me, "Sorry honey, I have to do this." I got him out as the doctor walked in the room. Mike said in a very stunned voice, "It's a boy? IT'S A BOY!!!!" I got to hold Zach 2 minutes before they whisked him away. They immediately called the NICU. The doctor came up and had to work on Zach for 1 hour. He said that Zach didn't have enough time being squeezed in the birth canal to get all of that gunk out of his lungs. So after 1 hour he went to the NICU for assessment. They sent him back to me and then up to recovery. So after 2 hours I finally got to hold him! I got to try nursing before they sent me up to recovery. He latched on right away and began sucking immediately! The gross thing is that they were so worried about Zach that they didn't get me cleaned up from labor until 2 hours later. Ugh! Zach was 9lbs 6oz and 21 3/4 inches long. Not only was he heavy he was tall!

Very ready to give birth!

Perfection!

Pumpkin Patch

This is one of those "I probably shouldn't but I'm gonna's!" Mike, Grandma Johnson, Granddad Johnson, Grandma Lou and I took Loren to the pumpkin patch! I could HARDLY walk. It was so worth it though! We dressed Loren in the Hollie Hobby Costume Grandma Johnson made for her. Loren had so much fun! There was a Hay-bale maze, petting zoo, slides, horse swings, bit swings, pony rides (we didn't do this because it was too hot and too long of a line) and games. It was an adorable set up. Best part is. . .it was probably 2 miles from our house! They did a fantastic job! So without further ado, here's the pictures.

Light at the end of the tunnel

Tuesday night I stop Heprin shots, Wednesday I'm admitted for Cervidil (I am 3 cm dilated but not effaced at all)
, Thursday we start a pitocin drip!!!
7 days I'm going to have our baby in my arms!!!!!!!!

Comfort!

Great news! Bonnie made it in safely last night! I am officially on BUM duty! I sit around . . . lay around. . .point well. . .walk 10 minutes for clotting issues and repeat process. However, I'm a lot more relaxed knowing Loren is being taken care of (the best she's been taken care of in the last 3/4 weeks)! She's already been on a walk and to the library today. I know she missed doing those things with mommy.

I woke up this AM feeling sorry for myself having to lay around yet again today knowing that every time I get up I will be in pain. SO, I tore my closet apart trying to find "OLD FRUMPY". Everyone in my life HATES Old Frumpy with a passion. It is a 3X Calving College Sweatshirt that I have had for 8 years. I grabbed it out of the lost and found one day while visiting Calvin College. It's my all-time most comforting thing in the world. Here is a picture of my Old Frumpy (BTW - sorry for lack of makeup and hairdo but hey. . .I'VE HAD A SHOWER ALREADY TODAY!!!!!) Oh, and you can see what a huge baby bump I have!

What do you wear on those "blahhhh" days??

Overwhelmed

With kindness that is! I kind of had a bit of a meltdown yesterday. This weekend I sat on the couch literally all weekend trying to rest for this coming week. However, every time I got up to do the smallest things pain just shot through me and made it unbearable. It got me (and Mike) just really scared for this week. What are we going to do. . .I can't take care of Loren like this. . .

The way this condition works is that you have a "best" that you feel. However, if you push beyond that "best" you have a new and worse "best." You can't go back to the way you were before. I've just pushed too far. My new best is that I can walk . . . and barely at that. . .thank God for riding carts at grocery stores. . .go ahead and laugh. . .I do. . .I run into everything!!!

It is hard for me to ask for help when I am in pain. Ever since I was diagnosed with Lupus I think that I need to push through pain to gain some personal victory (or maybe it's just a way of denying that there is anything wrong). . .it's hard to explain.

So anyway, I had a small little meltdown at church last night. Within minutes the church had a calendar of "who was taking Loren and what days." I just lost it! I couldn't believe that people were so willing to give to Mike, Loren and I like that. Then this morning I get a call from Mom telling me that she has worked out the week so that someone will be here to help me with Loren every day. THEN, I got a call from Bonnie saying she is on a flight tomorrow and will be here until the baby is born.

I am just sobbing as I type this realizing, yet again, that God is so faithful. That he will give us a way out from under the trials he sends our way: He will help us withstand them. It just overwhelms me that people love my family and I enough to drop EVERYTHING and be by our side.

Oh this isn't going to end well. . .

I went to my NST today and they told me to anticipate the baby being over 10 lbs. . .I see a C-section in my future or a pretty severe episiotomy. Either way, thank GOD I've got family coming to help for a few weeks after baby is born!
